Smiling, Jake stretched out in his seat. He could not wait to see the looks on his classmates faces. Usually, he missed most of the lesson from being late, and now he was a half hour early. It was first period, and sure he had to wake up and hour ealier to be able to straighten his hair and still get to school on time, but it would be worth it. He sat smirking to himself, big blue eyes on the door as he awaited the first person to enter.

Alice walked to her class to get there fifteen minutes early, like she normally does, in order to get some reading done. She walked in to find Jake Heartbreaker stretched out in his desk. This caught her off gaurd and she was forced to make eye contact with him. She was frozen where she stood, she was looking shocked and was blushing. Sometimes there were a few guys that, for the vast majority of class time, she would stare at, to no end. Jake was one of those guys. She was finally able to break eye contact with him. She looked at the ground, and mumbled something along the lines of, "Sorry." in her normal soft, shy voice. She hurried over to her seat, sat down, and immedeatly buried her head in her book.

Jake smiled at Alice as she walked in. Finally someone else was there. He hated it when no-one else was around. He kind of craved conversation. "Sorry for what exactly?" he laughed, kicking his feet up on the desk. He hardly knew Alice. He had just seen her around. But talking to anyone would un-bore him.

"Hm?..." Alice said poking her head up from her book. She soon realized that Jake was talking to her and blushed immedeatly. "Oh, for bothering you." she said to him, still blushing.

Jake smirked to himself as he watched her reading. He never understood why people would read outside of class. Unless of course it was a music magazine of some sort or instructions to his hair dye. "Hardly bothering me," he sighed, "Saving me from another half hour of boredom prehaps?"

Alice smiled slightly, still blushing. "Oh,...ok then." she said peering over the top of her book to look at him, so he wouldn't see her facial expression. Mustering up all of her courage, she finally asked him the question, "So...why are you here so early anyway?"

Jake shrugged. He had never really noticed Alice before, though it was hard not to notice a girl being the size she was. Despite being so vain, and also quite shallow, Jake was not prejudice. He was not going to ignore Alice's presence just because she was not someone he would be seen hanging out with out of school. "I'm always getting in trouble for being late. So I'm here early. They can't be on my arse for being here this ealy can they?" he smirked, "I would ask you too, but the book kinda makes it obvious."

"I guess not." she said in comment to his response as to why he was there. "Um...I have a question, if you don't mind." she said, still blushing. She was warming up to him, and her levels of stress were lowering. She folded a corner of the page she was reading, and put down her book, so she could focus her complete attention on Jake.

Jake concealed a small smile as she put her book down. He was glad she was not so shy now. Maybe she could keep him sane through the boredom, and he would not mind making friends with her. He had seen her being picked on around school, and a guy like Jake could stop that. Although he was not a bully, he had some control over other pupils. He hated bullies. "Shoot," he smirked.

She blushed and looked down at the desk she was sitting at. She was desperately trying to find the words she needed to express herself, and the question she had for him. "Um...Well,.....what's it like?..." she asked hesitating. "I mean.... What's it like being liked by everyone, never made fun of, everyone wanting to be your friend?" she finally managed to ask. "I've never really known what that's like." she said to him.

Jake frowned, letting his fringe fall in front of his glowing eyes. He was not frowning at her, oh no. In fact, he was beginning to take a liking to her. She was not ideal in the way she looked, far from it in Jakes eyes. After all he was quite shallow when it came to the way people looked, but it did not mean he approved of people that seem nice being treated like nothing. "You can't be liked by everyone," he finally sighed, lazily flipping his fringe away, "Just be happy with the friends you have."

Alice looked down at her desk. "Well...." she said as she hesitated. "What if you don't have any friends?" she asked him. Sadly this was very true, the only people who knew her either bullied her, or was scared of being bullied because they were nice to her. The only one, aside from Jake right now, that treated her half deacently was Edward Quent, and the twon of them rarely even interacted. He was another boy she could help but gaze at.

Jake frowned again, tossing his hair again. "Well-" he began, getting from his seat to sit on the desk next to Alice, "I wouldn't need to give you any advice for that situation, because I know you have at least one friend." His frown was replaced with a small, comforting smile. Although he could be a bit of an asshole, he liked Alice, and was not scared of being bullied at all. He could stick up for himself, and now Alice too if she needed it.
